The morning after TDC I crawled out of bed to take a bus at 7.30 to Billund (about 3 hours away) to go to Legoland. Lego is a Danish invention and the company has just taken over Mattel as the biggest selling toy brand in the world.
There was a miniature town featuring places in Denmark, Europe and Films, plus roller coasters and other rides.

TDC and DTU
This week my kitchen had its TDC party. This stands for Tour de Chambre and involves each person decorating their room with a different theme. They have a costume to match plus a game and a drink. Numbers are pulled out of a hat and the group visits each room, plays the game and has a drink. Chaos, awesomeness and fun ensues.
I dressed as an Oompa Loompa and did a Willy Wonka theme in my room, with chocolate milk drinks. Some other good themes were nursing home (old man, schnapps and coffee), ninja obstacle course, Ice land (decorated with icicles and polar bear drinks).
Some general pictures from life at DTU (check out my facebook for more pictures!)

Russia, Helsinki, Prague
In October we had a one week break from classes so I took the opportunity to travel a bit further away. I booked a 3 day trip to Russia leaving from Helsinki.
On my birthday I flew to Helsinki to take an overnight ferry to St Petersburg. I met 3 girls studying in Finland while waiting for the ferry who became my buddies for the trip.
We arrived in St Petersburg in the morning and took a tour around the city.
That evening we took a boat tour through the canals of St Petersburg. The city was built using inspiration from the rest of Europe so the buildings were coloured like Prague and the canals resembled Amsterdam.
The following morning a bus took us to St Catherines palace (a summer palace based on Versailles). In the evening we saw a ballet of Swan Lake in the Imperial Hermitage Theater before taking a night time limousine tour of the city. The hotel we stayed at had a rooftop bar with amazing views of the city so after the limousine I celebrated birthday drinks with my new friends.
On the final morning we had a painful, hungover tour of the State Hermitage Museum and spent the afternoon collecting souvenirs and taking photos of the impressive buildings.
After taking the ferry back to Finland, I spend two nights in Helsinki. The first day I spent wandering the city with the girls from the tour. The second day I took a boat over to the island Suomenlinna which used to be an old military base for Finland, Sweden and Russia at various times.
Next I took a flight to Prague to meet with Jaime (the other Adelaidian at DTU) and Sam (a friend studying in Prague). I had forgotten how beautiful the city was!
The first night I spent catching up with Sam at a bar over beers we could pour for ourselves at the table. After an awesome night partying at Le Chapeau Rouge (which we were later informed was the worst bar in Prague by our tour guide) we took a tour of the Castle district of the city.
That night Sam, some of his friends and I went to see Caribou play at Meat District (converted meat packing area).
The final day was spent on a walking tour, shopping (Denmark is too expensive to shop) and an impromptu quiz night and party at the Exchange students accommodation.
After a solid 10 days of travelling I was looking forward to getting back to DTU. However, my stingy traveller past self had other ideas. In an attempt to save money (and due to sold out flights) I took the bus back to Copenhagen. After taking a bus from Prague to Berlin I had to take another bus to Sweden. Little did I know this also involved a 7h overnight ferry and a public bus which only came once an hour. Needless to say, 21 hours late I arrived exhausted back home at DTU.

Danish Trip
My next getaway was the Danish Trip organised by the ESN group at DTU.
We left at 5 am on a Saturday morning and took a bus to the northern tip of Denmark. The first stop was Grenen where the north and the baltic sea meet. We also stopped at northern Europes largest moving sand dune and a Viking grave yard before spending the night in Aalborg.
The next day we took the bus to Denmark's second largest city, Aarhus. We took a walking tour of they city and had a chance to explore the very impressive modern art gallery.
Finally we went to Odense. A pretty little town which is the birthplace of Hans Christian Anderson.

Berlin
So as usual I have gotten behind on keeping up with what I have been doing. I have been at DTU almost 2 months and am already past the halfway mark for study.
My first weekend getaway was to Berlin. With Marcus and another Australian girl, Sabina, we took an overnight bus there on a Friday. We spent the weekend being tourists, and catching up with Lucy, a good friend from Adelaide who now lives in Berlin. We visited the east side gallery, ate schnitzel, checked out the nightlife, climbed the victory tower , wandered the markets and watched people from all over embarrass themselves doing karaoke. It was a short but sweet trip and was lovely to see old friends.
